The Augmented Triad is a three-note chord that is derived from the Augmented Scale.
These notes are:
Root – M3rd – A5th
So, for a C Augmented Triad, these notes would be:
C – E – G#
There are two groups of triad fingerings presented below, open and closed position. Closed position triads are those that lay on adjacent strings on the guitar. Open position chords are those that contain string skips within these fingerings. Not everyone will find every fingering comfortable or practical, so feel free to experiment with these different fingerings and find one, or two or three, that fit well with your hands.
Each fingering is presented on a C Augmented Triad, but make sure to practice these in all 12 keys so that you learn you neck, as well as take these fingerings into every possible spot on the neck.

Hi, this is a general question for the rest of your chord lessons:
What is the meaning of open voicing? Since I’ve been playing guitar, I’ve always thought that open voicings were chords that contained at least one open string, but apparently I’m mistaken.
Just a curiosity.
Hey Jeff,
you’re right, on the guitar the term open position refers to the first 3-4 frets of the guitar and usually having at least one open string.
In music theory, away from the guitar, the term closed position means that all the notes in the chord can fit within one octave and and open position chord is one that goes beyond the 1 octave range.
That’s all, just a different use of the term.
